    Job Summary

  • Direct and manage complex components of large projects or series of smaller projects with responsibility for budget management, project deliverables, client relations, and staff supervision.
  • Set priorities to ensure the completion of projects in an accurate, timely and cost efficient manner. Senior Scientists direct and manage complex scientific / technical components of large projects or series of smaller projects with responsibility for the application of advanced methods and techniques in a particular field of specialization.

  • Assume significant business development responsibility for identifying new markets and sales opportunities while maintaining current clients;
  • direct sales and proposal efforts in accordance with the Division's business development plan. Senior Scientists assume significant leadership role in business development by providing technical expertise.

    Make significant scientific / technical contributions to sales and proposal efforts in accordance to the business development plan.

  • Direct and establish policies and protocols to carry out research and provide technical guidance to less senior staff through application of advanced techniques, concepts, and methods related to a particular field of specialization.
  • Senior Scientists direct and serve as the subject-matter expert in the preparation of complex statistical and methodological reports and findings with responsibility as the senior technical writer.

    Serve as the primary reviewer of the analytical and technical writing of less senior staff.

  • Maintain an industry presence as a subject-matter resource by publishing regularly in peer reviewed journals and / or by presenting at annual conferences and meetings. Has name recognition.
  • Collaborate with peers to identify new research approaches and potential markets for those services.
  • Identify and recruit senior staff and actively participate in the mentoring of Associates and less senior staff.
  • Take lead responsibility for employing a substantial number of staff members at varying level.
  • Key Responsibilities

    Senior Associates assume lead role in the development of new business. Direct and manage the planning, design and implementation of project protocols and procedures.

    Serve as the primary client contact and translate client needs and / or objectives into specific deliverables in a timely and cost efficient manner.

    Ensure that all research projects are conducted with sound methods and techniques. Senior Scientists assume lead role in the development of new business through the contribution of scientific / technical expertise.

    Direct and manage the planning, design and implementation of technical project protocols and procedures. Serve as the primary client contact for methodological and technical expertise and translate client needs and / or objectives into specific deliverables in a timely and cost efficient manner.

    Ensure that all research projects are conducted with sound methods and approaches. Senior Associates / Scientists present and speak at client and professional meetings.

    Senior Associates have annual revenue goals that can range from $1-3Million. Senior Scientists do not have revenue targets but are expected to make significant technical contributions to the business development plan by providing technical expertise.

    Senior Scientists must maintain at least a 65% billability level. In addition, they :

  • Provide technical oversight for designing, development, planning, implementation; and capacity-building of monitoring and evaluation of assigned unit level programs.
  • Provide quality technical assistance to assigned country programs
  • Provide desk and on-site monitoring and evaluation oversight to assigned unit program, as appropriate.
  • Participate in resource development and other writing on assigned area activities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Skills Prerequisites

  • Knowledge and experience in specific technical area related to, public health, HIV / AIDS / RH / FP, health and or development and / or social science research health programs in developing countries.
  • Informed on current program developments in area of expertise by review of current literature and alert to implications of such for project activities.
  • Sensitivity to cultural diversity and understanding of the political and ethical issues in assigned areas, e.g. reproductive health, family planning, HIV infection, health and development
  • Ability to interpret data and draw appropriate conclusions of their significance and relevance to public health.
  • Familiarity with donor funded programs and communication styles.
  • Written and verbal communication skills.
  • Fluency in Portuguese and English.
  • Ability to work independently with initiative to manage high volume work flow.
  • Computer software skills in MS Office applications and data analysis software (eg : SPSS, STATA, EPIINFO, CHASS)
  • Ability to create and adapt manual and electronic instruments to improve quality of reported data
  • Minimum Qualifications

  • MA / MBA with 13-15 years OR PhD with 8-10 years of experience OR the equivalent combination of education and experience.
