REGIONAL FORESTRY MANAGER - Mozambique

Our client in South Africa, Pretoria is urgently looking to employ a competent Regional Forestry Manager for their branch in Mozambique, Messica.

Must be a Mozambique Citizen

Qualifications and Experience

  • 4 year BSc Degree in Forestry
  • 8-10 years’ experience in Forestry of which at least 3 years at a Senior Management level
  • Master’s Degree in Forestry / Business Administration / Business Leadership will be an added advantage
  • Mozambique Citizen / Fluently speak / write English and Portuguese
  • Valid drivers’ licence
  • Duties and Responsibility

  • Plan, direct, coordinate and account for implementation of activities at the highest level of management, with the contribution of managers and employees.
  • Ensure that is well positioned in its industry and amongst its stakeholders; and that a conducive environment is created for employees to perform and grow.
  • Develop, drive and execute Forestry and Processing Plans in order to maximize profitability and efficiency for the Operations.
  • Increase financial value for operations.
  • Develop, manage and oversee implementation of the product innovation plan for operations.
  • Develop, manage and oversee the implementation of tactical and operational plans.
  • Develop, manage and oversee the execution of the Annual Plan of Operation (APO) for planting, thinning, pruning and harvesting operations.
  • Analyse monthly benchmarking data and reports received from the above entities, as well as international publications and market intelligence service providers.
  • Conduct strategic and other presentations to GM : Operations, EXCO, the Board and Shareholder, when requested.
  • Manage and oversee trading activities where operations procures lumber and related products from external suppliers and sell same to compliment own production;
  • Manage and oversee consignment stock agreements and monitor share of the lumber market.
  • Ensure product deliveries in accordance to the sales plans and allocations.
  • Manage operations to achieve the budgeted results by optimal use of resources (equipment, people, funding)
  • Manage and oversee operations (core operations) to achieve the budgeted results utilizing resources efficiently and profitable.
  • Develop and oversee asset plan and ensure implementation of appropriate controls.
  • Monitor, oversee and ensure efficient management of growing stock.
  • Monitor, oversee and ensure efficient management of moveable and immoveable assets.
  • Facilitate FSC certification of plantations in and ensure it is maintained once certified.
  • Oversee and ensure maintenance of TUP areas of less than 3%
  • Manage and oversee the maintenance of the risk strategic and operational register for all operations;
  • Manage and oversee the implementation of the risk mitigating measures
  • Manage and oversee the implementation of appropriate action / s to prevent repeat findings from internal and / or external audits.
  • Ensure succession planning of key and critical positions within and other talent management interventions.
  • Lead, coach and develop high performance middle / junior management team
